The Legend of the “Lucky Oyster”
There was once a hapless Oysterman, who, try as he might, could never bring in enough
oysters to support his loving family. He would go out with his crew every day but always seemed to have the worst luck with the weather
or his boat; it was one thing after the other.
Frustrated he sat down with his family one night to enjoy the one meal he always
looked forward to, fresh caught Eastern Shore oysters.
Prying open his catch, the Oysterman discovered a tiny little crab that
had taken up refuge in his Chincoteague oyster. Rather than being taken aback, the Oysterman collected the little crab and returned
it to the Chesapeake Bay. From that day forward his luck changed for the better, his catches were huge, his boat became his trusty workhorse,
and his family prospered.
So if you are lucky enough to find your own tiny crab while enjoying our fresh Eastern Shore oysters, put on
a big smile and look forward to the best of luck in the future!
